FARMERS’ UNION.
MEETING AT MAKAURI
There was a good attendance at the meeting held last evening in the Makauri School, under the auspices of the Farmers’ Union, to consider the question of continuing the engagement of a veterinary surgeon. Mr. D. Dinan was voted to the chair, and at h:s request Mr. AY. D. Lysnar addressed the meeting, on the lines of his address at-Waerenga-a-hika on Thursday last, pointing out that a very large proportion of those who had agreed to contribute towards the salary of the voter-. - inary surgeon, Mr. Luttre’l, had failed J to do so. though the necessity- for retaining- that gentleman's services was urgent. Several speakers supported Air. Lysnar’s views, and a committee consisting of Messrs Cassity, Higgins. L. Bolton, McCredie, F. Jones, B. Brooking, and C. Gordon was appointed to canvas the Makauri district in order to obtain the necessary support to enable Mr. Luttrell’s services to be retained. It was unanimously decided that the present agreement, which has been in. force for ten months, between the Farmers’ Union and the owners of stock, should be superseded in favor of a new agreement, to epme into force to-day. It was also agreed that any persons owing money on account of payments towards the "fund for paying the veterinary'surgeon, either under the old agreement or the new one, might pay the same, in four monthly instalments, by means of orders on either of the two butter factories in the district, the amounts of these orders to be deducted from their butter cheques. A fresh agreement on the of that adopted at the meeting at AYae-renga-a-hika was drawn up, and signed by thirteen of the persons present. Aretes of thanks wore passed to Air. AY. D. Lysnar (chairman of the Gisborne Branch of the Farmers’ Union), Air. AYittet (secretary of tho Branch), and Air. Luttrell. veterinary surgeon, for their attendance, and a similar compliment to the chairman closed the meeting. • , - . ~ A meeting with a similar object will be held at Atatawhoro to-iuorrow evening.
