PRESENTATION TO W.M. BRO W. R. M A OKIE.
A very pleasant function took place last night in the Masonic flail, Childers Road, when the members of the Turanganui Dodge met to say goodbye to their W.M., Bro. Mackie, who is about to visit the Old Country on business matters. Bro. Mackie was installed into the Master’s chair only a few weeks ago, and many of the mem- - hers expressed their regret that lie* would not bo able to carry out the duties pertaining to his office this year, although, at the. same' time, one and . all congratulated him on his promoHr tion. ■*
Bro. W. 0. Skeet, in proposing the toast of Bro. Mackie’,s health, said that the brother now leaving had been a very zealous Mason, and had taken such an interest in the working of th<* craft that he had been deemed capable ■f filling the highest office in the Lodge, that of Worshipful Master. Ho was sorry Bro. Mackie had to Lava at this time, but he trusted the experience which he might gain m th* Old Country would be of lasting benefit to him, and that when he came back he would be ab’e to tell them all about the working of the Lodges at Home ' In handing over a handsome Mosgiel travelling rug to Bro. Mackie, Bro. Skeet said it would remind the recipient of- the many happy days ho had spent in the Turanganui Lodge. Bro. C. H. Ambridge endorsed what Bro. Skeet had Raid, and congratulated W.M. Bro. Mackie on the opportunity of getting a trip to the Old Land. Ho trusted Bro. Mackie would see a great deal of the Old Country, and the Masonic Lodges there, and hoped that every happiness would attend him till they met again. Bro. W. F. Crawford also spoke, and said that the Turanganui Lodge would miss a very good Mason on tbo departure of Bro. Mackie. In concluding a very humorous speech, at the same time giving the departing brother good advice, he wished him every success in the country to which he was going.
Bros. Pettie and Fyson also spoke in eulogistic terms of Bro. Mackie's worth. Bro. Mackie, in returning thanks, said that words failed him to express himself on that occasion. He thanked them all heartily for the beautiful present, which would ever remind him of the pleasant times he had spent in Turanganui Lodge. Although lie fet sorry to leave them all. he hoped that he would greatly benefit by his experi- . ence in the Old Country. _He won't jJjl. follow with interest the doings of hii Lodge, and would look forward to the time when he would lie with them again. He concluded by thanking them all again for their kind expressions, ai.d also for their gift. Bro. Maekie’s health was drunk with all the honors, and the ether toasts honored were: “The King and the Craft,” proposed! by Bro. Little (hedge Montrose); “The Visitors,” proposed bv Bro. Moss DeCosta, responded to by Bros. Little, Fyson, Rowley, vScott, and Zaohariah; “Bro. Long,” proposed by Bro. C. H. Ambridge; and “The Trustees,’-’ responded to by Bros. Skeet and Little.
Songs and recitations were given by Bros. Zaohariah, Mackie, Long. H. DeCosta, A. Sawyer. W. Pettie. J. Fyson, * and W. F. Crawford. The ac companiments were played by LBrns. J. Clirisp and E. X. Sidebottom, who were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion of the_ gathering. With the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King” tbo meeting was brought to an end.
