WIAHI .GRAND JUNCTION MINE

[Pur Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 31. The superintendent of the W-aihi Grand Junction reports: “Tile Empire lodo has penetrated 55ft east. For 121 ft the stone has averaged a valuo of three guineas per ton, and tile face of the cross-cut £5 2s fid. The foot of the wall has not yet been reached. Sales.— At the morning call shares sold at 45s to 465.

WAIHI, May 31. The latest news from the Grand Junction Mine shows tho Empire lode at No. 5 level to have been cut through for a distance of over GO feet with no appearance of footwall. Assay values up 555 feet for 121 feet, are three guineas. The face at that point gave an average value of £5. 2s fid. The appearance of the lode since indicates that hotter values will be obtained.

AUCKLAND GOLD RETURNS

AUCKLAND, May 31

During May the gold returns from tho mines of the Auckland district reached a total val'ue of £100,374 3s lid. Tins is a considerable decrease upon tho April yield of £177,066 11s lid, and is also a decrease upon the corresponding month of last year (£174,997), but in these, two months, there were two Wailii returns. The past month’s returns are made up as follows: Ohinemuri £98,218 10s od, Thames £1155 ss, Coromandel £IOO6 8s 6d. . The Waihi Gold Mining Company has declared! a quarterly dividend of 4s per share, together with a bonus for tho past year of 2s per share, this represents a payment to the 18/4 colonial shareholders on the New Zealand register of £41.366.
