ALLEGED SLANDER.
£IOO DAMAGES AWARDED

AUCKLAND, May 31. At the Supreme Court to-day, Harriet Dingle sought to recover from Henry Tooman the sum of £250, damages for alleged slander. Mr. J. RReid, who appeared for the plaintiff, stated that the plaintiff was a widow and was the proprietress of the Railway Hotel at Drury, and that the defendant. Henry Tooman, was a farmer at Pahiatua. 'The alleged slander was that defendant had, in plaintiff’s hotel, in the presence of a witness, made a statement suggesting that Mrs. Dingle was undulv intimate with his brother. Mr. Reid'asked for such damages as might actually be obtainable, saying lie did not hope' to get the full amount. After evidence had been given m proof of the facts. Mr. Justice^ Edward gave judgment against the defendant foi £IOO, with costs. Defendant did not appear.
