THE BOOT TRADE.
THE WELLINGTON DISPUTE.
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, June 1
The dispute in the Wellington boot trade, which was before the Arbitration Court here recently, and referred to tlie conference, has not yet been disposed of. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner for Wellington district, presided at the conference, which lasted a considerable time. Some of tho points in dispute to male workers were settled. The points which remain unsettled relate principally to wages and overtime. Though the differences have been materially reduced, there is no possibility of getting the parties to come to a unanimous decision, and the assivstance of the Court will again, be asked to arrive -at a solution of the difficulty. The views expressed at the conference by the respective sides will lie forwarded to the Court, and it is expected tliev will largely guide the Court in its decision. The position with respect to female workers is more satisfactory. In this dispute a definite agreemnt, the terms of which have not been divulged, lias been arrived at. and will be forwarded to the Court, with a view to having it embodied in the terms of the award. The case regarding the male workers will be referred to the Court- about the middle of the week. At thei conclusion of the conference, a hear tv vote of thanks was ■ ’ssed to Mr. Hally for his strenuous efforts to bring the parties together.
