AVELLINGTON, June 2

A largely-attended meeting of women was held in tho Town Hall this afternoon to discuss the proposals for universal training.- The Mayoress (Airs. A. K. Newman) presided. The speakers included four women. The follow-' ing.motion was unanimously carried—- “ That this meeting considers that, notwithstanding the enthusiasm of the volunteers, the voluntary-scheme does not provide adequate means of defence, .and therefore asks tho Government to introduce, a scheme of universal military training for young men.” A committee of women was set up to cooperate with the men’s committee in the matter.
