LONDON, June 2
General Sir lan Hamilton has been appointed Adjutant-General of the Forces and second military member of the Army Council, vice LieutenantGeneral Sir Charles Douglas. In a remarkable farewell order relinquishing the Southern District command, Sir lan Hamilton recalls his efforts to. impart to the troops the results of his experience in. Manchuria, where ho acted as military representative of •India with the Japanese army. Ho had endeavored especially, he says, to influence cavalry against peace practice ■of unreal tactics, .and to encourage ‘artillery to perfect themselves in the use of concealed positions. Whatever •progress, has been realised, he says, is due to the sympathy of all ranks with his underlying aim, namely, preparedness and efficiency for war.
