The hearing of the charge against the three Chisholm brothers of aggravated assault on Patrick Gormley was concluded at tho Supreme Court yesterday, when the jury returned a verdict of guilty. The defence, consisted of a denial of the whole facts brought forth by tho prosecution, and in passing sentence- Air. Justice Denniston said that by convicting accused of assault the jury found them guilty of perjury. James Chisholm,- aged 27 years, and Donald, aged 30 years, were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, and Aeneas, 20 years, to three months’ imprisonment. . , Tho Supreme Court was occupied yesterday 'afternoon hearing a case of alleged rape by one Baigent on a married woman at> Ashburton. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. SITTINGS IN DIAHIICE. .INVERCARGILL, June 3. The Supreme Court was occupied till 4.30 p.m. yesterday hearing the evidence for petitioner in the divorce suitAVatt v. Watt and Scobie, co-respon-dent. At this, stage the hearing was adjourned till Friday. In Thomson v. Thomson, wife’s petition, on tho ground of desertion, a decree nisi was granted. Evidence was also taken in Gordon v. Gordon, husband’s petition, and the case was adiourned.
