BOWLING.

GISBORNE CLUB. MACKINTOSH WINS THE SINGLES HANDICAP. Bowling was carried on morning and afternoon yesterday on tlie green of the Gisborne Bowling Chib. The muster of players was large, and the green was in good playing condition. The most interesting feature ol : the day’s play was the final in the Handicap Singles, which was played off in the afternoon between AV. J. P. Gaudin and H. J. Mackintosh. The former conceded five points to the latter, who won by two points after a keen contest, in which an extra head had to be played. The score in this match was* as lollows: —

Mackintosh (6) beat Gaudin (1), 25 23.

The play on both sides was exceptionally fine. On the first four heads Gaudm scored, getting in a single on each. Mackintosh then made a rally, and scored on the succeeding four, putting up two threes and two singles, so that, on the eighth head, the score stood Mackintosh 14, Gaudin 5. The latter then, by brilliant play, got in all four bowls m the ninth head. Mackintosh responded by putting up two on the tenth. Gaudin, however, playing admirably, succeeded in scoring on the next five heads, gaining nine points and raising his total to .18, against his opponent’s 16. The latter, who was playing very accurately and consistently. made a single on each of the next two heads, so that on the seventeenth head the scores were even—lb all. Gaudin got in a couple on the following head, but Mackintosh more than equalised matters by scoring three on the nineteenth. He followed up liis advantage by putting in a couple on the twentieth, his consistent drawing proving too much for the brilliant play of his opponent. When the twen-ty-first head opened Gaudin was 20 to Mackintosh’s 23, and 1 some admirable play on both sides ensued. Gaudm lay three when Mackintosh proceeded to aay his last bowl. That shot took out one of Gaudin’s bowls, but thS lattei got in his final bowl thus gaining three points and making the score 23 all. Un the additional head played to decide the match, Mackintosh got in a couple and thus won by two points, lie takes the Glasgow Distillery Go. s trophy, a pair of bowls in a,handsome case, through Messrs L. D. Nathan and Go. Gaudin wins a trophy presented by An. 'A. Zachariali as second prize. C lO winner is a comparatively young member of tlio club, and Ims win was a popular one. Had Gaudm boon successful, Hie result would also have been well received, especially after the splendid fight which lie put up. The following wore the results ol the other games .played;.— G.
