SNEAK THIEVES.
CAPTURED IN WELLINGTON
WELLINGTON, June 6When a niglitwatchman named Nelson, an employee of the City Council, was on duty last night, he espied a man in the yard of the tramway stores. The intruder beat a hasty retreat, with the niglitwatchman in pursuit. Unfortunately for the former he ran into the arms of a policeman. While conducting tlio man back to tlie yard a second individual was met and taken in charge. A third is said to have successfully effected liis eseapq. Tlie men arested gave their names as Norman Christopher and William Manning. They were charged in the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. W. G. .Riddell, S.M.) with stealing 20 feet of insulated copper cable, valued at 18s, belonging to the -City Corporation. Both pleaded not guiltv. but hud nothing to say for themselves. They had never before been convicted for dishonesty, and His Worship fined each of them 20s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. ‘
