WITTY.,4 Early yesterday morning there, i>assed away another early colonist/ and widely respected resident of'- Poverty; Bay, Mrs. J. W. Witty, wife ot Mr. J. VV. Witty, secretary to the Gisborne; Harbor Board. The deceased lady,: who was 61 years of age, had been on poor health ior some months, but only became seriously ill about a fortnight j ago. On Friday she took a decided change for the worse, and her condition gave her family and friends much an- j xiety. On Saturday there was a little improvement, but on Sunday she began f to sink, arid became unconscious. About | 5 o’clock yesterday morning- she quietly passed a wav in the presence of her husband and family-. The deceased, lady came to New Zealand with her- parents sixty years ago,-'; and married Mr. Witty in 1871. For some years Mr. and Mrs. Witty resided . at Napier and. Wairoa, and about 28 years ago caine\ to (Msborne, where they resided ever since, and where they- ' made a wide circle ,of friends. The interment, which will be private, will take place to-day at the Makaraka j cemetery. Flags were flying at half-mast on the Harbor Board offices, the Borough Council Chambers, the Gisborne bowling green, and many business places out of respect to tlie memory of the deceased lady, and the Gisborne bowling green was closed as a token of sympathy with Air. Witty in his bereavement. Air. Witty’s family consists of three sons and three daughters, all of whom are living in the district.
