When logs are brought into the sawmill yards it is necessary to cut them into lengths, so that they can he dealt Avith by the mill saws. To do this Avork it takes two men, but tho old order of things is likely to change (says the Grejmiouth correspondent of the New Zealand “Times”), as two young men, employed at Alessrs Stewart and Chapman’s mill, at Rimu, have just patented a contrivance by Avhich it will only take, one man to do tho work. The patent is said to facilitate matters very much, besides saving a great deal of labor. It is likely that all tho mills on the West Coast will secure this la-bor-saving device, as it is pronounced by experts to bo just Avliat is required.
