TWO PROSECUTIONS.

At the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, the Mountain Rimu Timber Company was prosecuted by the Inspector of Awards for a breach of the timber award in paying a carpenter less than the award wages. The wages paid were Ss Gd, while the award wage was 9s. Defendants urged that the man was employed as a general useful hand, not as a carpenter. The company was fined £2 and 12s costs. The Bartholomew Timber and Land, Company was also prosecuted by the same inspector on the same kind of charge. Defendants urged that Is a week was keptbac'k for the rent of a cottage which the man had lived in. A fine of £7 and costs, and mileage 30s, was imposed. ’
