AGITATION AT CHRISTCHURCH

CHR IST OH U R OH, June 8. A meeting of unemployed was held last night, when fifty attended. A. committee was set up to take whatevei steps they considered necessary to approach the various local bodies m order to get them to put in hand at once any work that could be done, so as, to provide- immediate employment tor as many as possible, and to urge upon them the necessity of doing such work by day labor only. A deputation was set up to wait upon local M.IVs and the Premier, if possible, before ne left for the Old Country, and to press upon them the necessity of dealing at once with the unemployed problem. A deputation waa also appointed to wait upon the Mayor to ascertain the best method of approaching the City Council in order to get them to - put> m hand all work they possibly could, committee arranged a plan of camp ay to be carried out during the next ten days. Tlio Mayor has convened a special meeting of the Morks Connm tee to consider the question of the unemployed. . The committee will be asked to take into consideration the -poasibilty of putting on some men who are at present in want of employment. The weather is favorable for work being put in band, but just at tins time, of the year the Council has not a great deal in hand.
