‘ GISBORNE CLUB
The green of the Gisborne Bowling Club presented a very animated appearance yesterday afterno<sh. It was in excellent order for play, and there was a large muster of players thereon. Several members of tho Tvrranganui Club,'. Avhose -green lias been closed, AA’ore Avelcome guests. The principal event of the day Avas a match in the contest for the President’s Cup, in which J. J. Martin beat F. AV - Pettie, after an evenly fought and . very -interesting game. 'The particulars of this match'-Avere as follows :
J. J. Martin 23, beat F. AV. Pcttie 21.—The scoring Avas remarkably oven throughout the game, and both, players shoAved some good form. On the 19tli head the total Avas 19 all. Martin got in a- couple on the next head, so that Pettie had to make tA\ T o to tie and three to Avin. The play on the 2.lst head Avas very exciting, Martin Avas lying one, and Pettie, driving Avitli his last hoAvl, burned the head. On the following head Martin avas lying two, and Pettie Avith his last boAv! carried the jack into tho ditch, and lay. two himself, thus equalising the score.
