SHIELD MATCHES
Tim hockev shield matches Avere continued on No. 1 ground at AUctoria Domain yesterday afternoon. The Aveathcr was perfect, and the ground in excellent condition for fast and intor e-sting games. Y.M.C.A. (2) v. CAVIL SERVICE (0). This game Avas played first, and Avas fairly fast, some excellent play being •Avitncssed on both sides. Faulty , work in the circle lost each team chances of scoring, but Y.M.C.A. were more fortunate in this respect, and goals were registered for them by Pine and Baker. The game Avas very evenly contested, hut Y.M.C.A. shoAved a slight .superiority 0A r et* their opponents, Avho were, hoAvriver,- unfortunate in not scoring at least, once. Air. P. AM Bushiiell ably refereed the match. AVEST END (1) v. CITY (1).
Great interest was- falcon in the meeting of these teams, and spectators ..-were .'.rewarded by seeing a hardfought and interesting game. . City had the better-iff the first spell, and Friar ■scored for them shortly after tho start: In tlio second spell AVest End •Lowed "lip avo!1. and pressed nearly all the time. J. Martin, in goal for City, «!)ved splendidly time after time, but towards; the close, Hooper got one past him info the net, equalising the scores. AA r ost End continued to force matters, but were unable to add to their score, and a really good game, resulted, in a tinny. Mr. Bushiiell again controlled the' game in a most satisfactory manner.. '
