POVERTY BAY HANDICAP TOUR-
NAMENT
Tho first round of the handicap tournament commenced at the Poverty Bay Golf Club’s links on Saturday afternoon. There was an exceptionally large number of players out, including many ladies. Some very close and interesting games resulted in the tournament, and several surprises were effected during tho afternoon. In tho A division, P. Keiha and G. M. Dodgshun, who wore on the same mark (plus 1) fought out a keenly-contested round. Keiha was 1 up at the 17th, and there was a great deal of interest taken in. the play at the last hole, xi largo crowd eagerly watching the strokes of tho players. Dodgshun stimied his opponent on the green with his third stroke, but as his ball was within six inches of that of his opponent he had to life it, and the hole was halved in four, leaving Keiha victorious in an excellently-played contest by 1 up. R. Barker (9) displayed, excellent form, and effected surprise by defeating Traill (scr) by 1 up. Afternoon tea was provided by- Mrs. Kino- and Misses F. Adams and Taylor. Hondo, (6), 2 up; IV Keiha (plus 1) beat G. M. Dodgshun (plus 1), 1 up; J. W. Chirnsido (4) heat W. Gibson (10), 4 up and 3 to play; R. Willock (10) beat B. Moore-Sampson (10), 1 up; R- Barker (9) heat F. Traill (ser), 1 up; G. Willock (scr) boat R. (J. Burke (10), 4 up and 3 to play.
—B Grade.— 11. M. Finn (15) beat L. T. Symes (9), 2 up; J. B. Kells (17) beat H. Bcn- ' nett (17), 1 up; W. A. O’Meara (16) beat L. T. B'roivn (3), 4 up and 3 to play; E. H. Mann (2) and W. B. Willock (scr), all square. The last gamo will bo played off next Saturday, as both players drew a bye in the first round. NEW SOUTH WALES AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP.
