Unless the Government advances the money it is possible the Board will find itself in a very awkward fix. The Bo'roimh Council is also suffering from a depleted , treasury chest, and finds itself compelled id retrench..

It is apparently certain now, says the Islands correspondent of the New- Zealand. “Herald’’, that a team of Fijian cricketers' (native) will go to England. News has come to hand that the Governor consents, and ‘‘Lords favorable.” A coach will ho obtained from Australia, and the party, 14 in a will leave Fiji in April of next yeai, returning in October.

A very enjoyable progressive euchre party and dance took place last night in St. Mary’s Social Hall. In the former’ the first prize for ladies (a prize presented by Miss Neill) was won by Mis O’Keefe., and that for gentlemen (presented by Mr. 0 Connor) va> gained by Mr. Maher. The consolation prizes were won by Miss Jonas and Mr, T. Peterson. Music for the dance wa-* played by Messrs Vita Bros.
Daspite the counter attraction of the public meeting in His Majesty’s Theatre, there was a large attendance of both ladies and gentlemen at the meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Debating Society last evening, when ‘‘lndividualism versus Collectivism” was discussed. Mr. C Tattersfield advocated individualism, and Mr. J. Hall collectivism. A number cf members spoke, and on a vote being taken, Mr. Hall jsecured 19 votes for his support for collectivism against IS votes for the advocate of individiv alism.
After the recent meeting dealing with the rabbit question, the Mayor forwarded the following telegram to the chairman of the Opotiki County Council: —“After two representative meetings, and on the advice of Chief Rabbit Inspector. Hawke’s Bay, decided to form ltahbit Board, including all land north of Mohaka River, through Galatea to Motu River, thence to sea, so that necessary fences can be erected where rabbits threaten. Before drawing petition under part two Rabbit Act. 190 S, it has been suggested the committee communicate with you if your district would approve of inclusion of your district in Board, so that the whole districts can join in exterminating rabbits in Opotiki district, and avoid cost of fence on Motu road. Suggestion is whole area be rated on same basis, which means only very small proportion would fall on your district. Would ask prompt reply bywire as wc are delaying pending your reply. Danger of rabbits increasing unquestionably- growing.” _ The followin rr replv has been received by the Mayor“Re Rabbit Board, Opotiki Council cannot reply definitely. Referred matter to Agricultural and Pastoral Association.”
