The barque Canterbury, from Eden, a small port on the Peruvian coast, whilst discharging ballast, discovered that it contained human skulls, and many leg. and other bones. The captain states that he had great difficulty in obtaining ballast at 8s 9d a ton, and noticed it contained hones, but thought they were of animals until the ballast was discharged. It is supposed that the ballast was taken from the site of an ancient Peruvian town.
