GISBORNE SCHOOL.
THE MAYOR’S CUP FOR LIFESAVING COMPETITION.
Yesterday afternoon, the children of the unper standards at the Gisborne School assembled to allow the Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar) to present the cup awarded by him for the life-sat lug competitions at the school baths. Mr. John Somervell, chairman of the School Committee, occupied 'the chair, and called upon Mr. Lysnar to present the cup to the winner, Etera Akurm. 111 doing so, the Mayor spoke or the advantages of learning bow to save life. Though the competition bad been open to the girls, not a girl had competed. and he thought that if some or them bad done so they would given the boys a close go for it. He then asked the. winner to come forward and receive the cup' and accompanying modal. Halbert Te Kani and Tariki Munro. who tied for second place, also received prizes. Three cheers were then given for the prize-winners. Air. Darton also addressed the children, and after three cheers had been given lor the Mayor and Mayoress, the proceedings closed.
