COLLISION AT SEA
MAN-OF-WAR AND MERCHANTMAN. FEARED THAT BOTH HAVE SUNK. United Press Association —Copyright. (Received Juno 21, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 20. An unknown merchantman collided with H.M. second-class cruiser Sappho. The latter was severely damaged and, in a sinking condition, was towed to Dover. An attempt was made to loach her, but she was very low in the water. The crew were saved. There are no tidings of the merchantman, aind it is feared that sho has sunk. It is supposed that she was a Wilson liner. '
[H.M.S. Sappho was built in 1891. Sho was a vesssel of 3400 tons displacement and 7000 liorse-power. . Her speed was 20.47 knots. She carried 8 guns and, according to latest information available., was commanded by Commander Harold Christian.]
