PROGRESS OF SALVAGE WORKS

(Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, June 19. The stranded steamer Taviuni has been lifted 18ft aft and 9ft forward. A cable has now to be constructed to drag the vessel to the breakwater, through which a cut will be made and the steamer launched into the river. As so much of the necessary work has been done a large number of men employed have been paid off.
