BOWLING.
TURANGANUI CLUB. The committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club has accepted the invitation of the. Y.M.C.A. to play a game of carpet lxiwls at the Association’s rooms on Monday next, and has appointed Messrs J. P. Williams, B. Hird, M. G. Nasmith, junr., and A. Sawyer (skip) to represent the elub on the occasion. GISBORNE CLUB. Weather conditions must lie very unfavorable indeed to damp the enthusiasm of some of the bowlers of Gisborne, and, therefore, though the condition of the Gisborne Club’s green on Saturday was tlie reverse of favorable, a few players were found to venture thereupon. Inspired., they may have been, by memories of a certain historic “singles” match which was played in a tremendous downpour of rain by bowlers clad in oilskins. Matters were not quite as had as that on Saturday, but the two members who .essayed to play found it necessary to take with them a good-sized “rag”, wherewith to dry the bowls between the heads. Messrs Mackintosh and Kyme were the players aforesaid, and, despite the adverse conditions above alluded to. they put up some very good heads. The latter had decidedl - the worst of the luck, though he played' a good game, and was beaten by V substantial majority. To-morrow the competition for the Martin medals is to be continued. I<. A. Martin’s rink is to play Eure s. The win ners are to meet Corson s rink in the final.
