THE TOMAHAWK BEACH FATALITY.

THE INOUEST

(Per Press Association.' DUNEDIN. Juno 21

An inquest on the human remains found at Tomahawk Beach on Saturdya was held to-day. Medical evidence was to the effect that the remains were probably thosp of a woman. Dr Fulton gave w evidence as to attending Theresa Meade, who was about 34 years of age. She had told him she was afraid to he by herself night or dav ,and also that she would put an end to herself. Witness thought she was on the borderland of insanity, and he advised her relatives that she should be 6ent to a mental hospital. That was not done, and he was not the. least surprised to hear that she was missing and that she was supposed to have drowned herself. The coroner said that taking everything into consideration, there could be little doubt that the body was that of Theresa .Meade, and that death was due to suicide by drowning on or about July 14 last, whilst temporarily insane, and it was to be regretted that she had not been sent to a mental hospital, but, no doubt, her relatives had. taken every precaution at the time. No reflection eould .be cast upon the relatives for not sending the deceased to a mental hospital.
