ENJOYABLE INDOOR GAME
As an indoor winter pastime there should be no more popular game than carpet bowls, because.it is'fascinating, calls for skill and judgment, and allows all the social advantages of bowls upon the green; a game which it closeIv resembles. A rink has been established at the Y.M.O.A. rooms which already has many devotees, and many interesting matches have been played. Next Monday evening a tournament will take place between teams representing the Y.M.C.A. and the Gisborne and Turauganui Bowling Oubs, when some expert play should be "witnessed. In the Old Country the game has caught oil wonder!Lilly, and at the last tournament held in Scotland no less than 2032 players took paid. The tournament was played in the Scottish Drill Hall, Glasgow, where the alleys were arranged at convenient distances Valuable trophies were offered for comedition and players attended from all parts of the United Kingdom. So great is the popularity of .carpet bowls that poems and short stories have been written about the game, and the tournaments have been the subject of cartoons in the newspapers.
