PRESS CONFERENCE.
DELEGATES IN SCOTLAND. - PROCEED TO EDINBURGH. Unit kd Pit ess AHsocurmN—CoryuiciiiT. LONDON, June 22. The press delegates, after visiting -the Trossaclis, proceeded to Edinburgh. A BANQUET AT GLASGOW. MORE NOTABLE SPEECHES. (Received June. 23, 10.25 p.m.) In fine sunshine, the press delegates and ladies journeyed by steamer from Balloch to the head of Loch Lomond, returning to Invorsnaid, and thence Try coach to Stronallachar. After sailing across Loch Katrine, they drove to Callander, where they took farewell of 'the Lord Provost, and their other Glasgow host*. The Hon. O. E. Davies (Hobart '“Mercury”;), speaking at the Glasgow Corporation banquet, said that the proofs of Britain’s resources, seen in the hives of industry outside London, were a 'great object lesson to the delegates. The sight of the nucleus of a Commonwealth navy upon the stocks had suggested the hope that the Australian fleet would eventually become of great assistance to the Motherland. The Hon. T. Fink (Melbourne “Herald”) said that the citizens of the overseas dominions cherished far above wealth the qualities, traditions, and sense of government inherited from Britain. To Australians, Glasgow was more, than the commercial capital of Scotland. It was a model in many respects of local government, a place where the sense of Imperial citizenship was fructified and strengthened by daily adherence to sound principles of municipal government. Glasgow’s institutions were spreading and being Imitated overseas.
