Lord Roseberju in a letter to the papers, states that Mr Lloyd-George’s Budget is a social and political revolution of the first magnitude. Whatever its merits it will effect vast changes without the faintest desire or attempt to ascertain the people’s views. The country has changed its character if it fails to see that the absolute rule of the party in power differs little from the depotism of individuals. It was a .sinister symptom if the former jealous vigilance in regard to the people’s liberties were replaced by apathy. DISORDERLY SCENE IN THE HOUSE. A PROTEST AGAINST THE CLOSURE. -(Received June 23, 10.40 p.m.) LONDON, June 23. Major Prettyman’s amendment definitely exempting agricultural land free of increment value from duty, was rejected by 301 to 190, amid loud Opposition cheering. The Irish Nationalists supported the amendment. An angry scene followed the chairman’s accepting Mr. Lloyd-George’s motion of closure on the first three lines of clause one, thereby - shutting out 38 amendments, including one reviving the tax on ungotten minerals. The Unionists shouted “Put the whole Bill,” and declined to go into the lobbies,- The scene continued until the .adjournment.
