ACTION FOB SLANDER

JURY’S VERDICT REVERSED. (Per association. AUCKLAND. June 24. Judge Edwards reversed the finding of the jury in the case, Bradney v. Virtue, which awarded £2-5 damages in regard to each of two charges of slander arising out of the Auckland Harbor Board election. The persons to whom the alleged slanderous utterances were made were Kneen and one of the proprietors of the “Observer,' both of whom had been actually engaged in promoting the election of plaintiff. The former election having been declared void, defendant apparent'y honestly believed he was performing a public duty in informing those concerned in promoting Bradney’s election that Bradney, in the course of previous proceedings, had committed perjury. .
