GENERAL SLACKNESS IN AUCKLAND. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 24. Inquiries made to-dav show that there is a general slackness here in the building trades. Those out of work include about 100 carpenters. 50 painters, and a number of plumbers, plasterers, and bricklayers. It is stated that about 200 laborers are idle, and upwards of 50 members of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees’ Union are out of employment, as well as a number of engine drivers, iron moulders, and others. PAINTERS IDLE IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, June 24. The Secretary of the Painter’s Union states that not more than 20 tradesmen in the city are working full time. There are over 300 on the books. Between GO and Go painters havo arrived* from other countries during the lash IS months, but in the past six months. GO and 70 have gone away. BUSHFELLING FOR UNEMPLOYED. CHRISTCHURCH. June 24. J The officer in charge of the Christchurch Labor Office is preparing to send some unemployed to the, North Island, to take up the bushfelling work: offered by the Government, as soon as advice has been received as to the number of men *vlio can be placed. A selection will bo made from applications which may Lie received. WORK OFFERED IN DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, June 24. j Work has been offered to all married! j men who have made application to the Labor Department in' Dunedin, and;' some of the most necessitous cases among the single men are being pro-' vicled for. The. City Corporation has j found employment for sixty hands.
