CHINESE REBELS
SUFFOCATED BY SMOKE. GOVERNMENT TROOPS’ HORRIBLE ACTION. United Press Association— Copyright SYDNEY, June 25. - Eastern files to hand contain a thrilling story in connection with the war against Chinese rebels at Sumatra. The Government troops located a band in a large cave. They refused to surrender. By order of the military commander a fire was lighted at the mouth of the cave, and kept going for a while, when it was extinguished. The rebels (being still obdurate, the fire was relighted. When the cave was examined 5 men, 12 women and 1L children were found to have been suffocated. The Governor w-as so shocked that lie issued an order to prevent further similar horrors.
