Bennett, of Puha, wrote. awing attention to a culvert in disrepair near his property, ’and. asking the Council to attend to it.—the Chairman said that the matter had • been before the Cool: County Council I for three years. After discussion tho : matter was held over, to be referred I to the new engineer. _ I Tho secretary of the ‘ Motu V alley t Settlers’ Association wrote regarding the bad state of the newly-formed road V from Matawai to Motu.—The Overseer ?■ was instructed to put a man on to :- attend to the water tables. Mr. Tbos. Long, Makaraka, wrote offering to supply "the Council with any | quantity of- Waihirere metal spawls at : 6s per vard. —Received. ' Mr. Chas. Leggett, secretary of the I" Wharekopac-Tahora Farmers’ and Settlers’ Association, wrote suggesting > that the Council should obtain an engineer’s report regarding the advisa- | bility of making deviations on the presto ent ‘road through Ngatapa. It was also requested that the Council would ask | the District •Surveyor to proclaim as a road the portion of the WharckopaeTahora road, between Mr. E. J. Williams’ place and the Mutuera river, . formed by tlie East Coast Trust Land Board.—The Chairman said that the I Cook County Council had refused to i take over the road, as it was not the ■ required width, and the Clerk was instructed to interview the District Surf veyor ‘«s to the proper steps to bo h taken. ■ f Mr. Geoff rev Maclean, manager of I Te-Hau-o-te-Atua station, forwarded a receipt for £2O on account of road i maintenance. He also asked for tho expenditure- of £ls more, claiming that f the road was almost _ impassable. —On the motion of the Chairman, the Overseer was instructed to do the necessary work as far as Mr. Palmer s homestead, up to a cost of £25. Messrs Rees Bros, and Bright wrote enclosing a copy of a letter from Mr. - F. R. Evinson. The letter had reference to tlie removal of a store, and f. stated that plan’s were being prepared for a new building, on the proper road line, when tho old building would he I- removed. —Received. $ A letter was read from the Postal | Department stating that every conl: side.ration wouldi be given to the request for improved post and telegraph facilities at To Karaka.—Received. A letter was received from the Public Works Department, declaring the Motu to Motu bridge, and Waikohu Valley roads, in the Waikohu County, to ho county roads.—The Chairman rei marked that it should be Waihuka t * Valley road. Mr. W. S. Charleswortli wrote forwarding his acceptance of tho Council’s offer of appointment as. engineer.— Received. Four residents petitioned the Council to take over, as a county road, the surveyed and formed road through the Lome estate. —It was decided to hold ■ the matter over pending the receipt of a plan of tlie road. Mr. R. D. Mackenzie forwarded ’ plans and specifications of a slaughterhouse proposed to he erected at Otoka statoin, Ilakauroa.—lt was decided to grant the application.'-and refer it to ) the Stock Department for approval. 1 Mr. R. Thelwall, Sanitary. ' r —The matter was left in the hands of the Inspector. Messrs Rees Bros, and Bright fori warded a draft license to lay down a tramway on Behalf of Mr. F. Hall, which they said was in conformity with Mr. doG. Fraser’s report on the matted, and fully protected tlie Council. —It was decided to sign the document, and return to tho solicitors as correct. REPORTS. f The aoting-Engineer (Mr. A. F. ; -Matthews) forwarded a report dealing with several matters, and enclosing plans for a footpath from Mr. A. M? Thq Overseer (Mr. Mooney) reported on the progress of several road works , in course of completion, and making suggestions as to others to he under- | taken—The report was adopted, and v it was decided to undertake some of the suggested repairing work at once, . the remainder to be held over for com sideration of tho new engineer. The poundkeeper (Mr. J. F. Bell) £ reported the following .impounding* of stock since last meeting: Cattle 21, ( horses 26, sheep 24; total fees, less ; sustenance, £8 7s 2d. He also asked S- permission to have twelve- loads of gravel put in the pound yard.—Tho requested permission regarding gravelling was granted, and the report was adopted.
