The final report of the City Improvement ComniHssion, which has been sit ting since May last year, recommends a comprehensive scheme of remodelling Sydney, including the immediate introduction of underground electric; railways for the city and suburbs, the widening of Elizabeth street for the entire length to not less than 100 ft, and the creating, widening, and improving of some other streets. Other recommendations include the generally beautifying and developing of the city, the removal of Pyrmont bridge,, providing new traffic routes to the wharves, and dealing with slum areas and housing reforms. It is considered the scheme will meet the needs of traffic for the next 25 years, at the end of which, at the .present rate of increase, it is estimated the population of the city and suburbs will be a million and a quarter.
