CHARITABLE AID BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting cf the Charitable Aid Board was Tield r last night. Fresent: His Worship the Mayor and Messrs/Kirk, Somcrvqll, Smith, Pettie, '•and Df. Collins. An old man was granted admission to the Home. On tho application of a woman avith five children relief at 10s for one month was granted. Tho Visiting Committee reported as follows: — “The Visiting Committee for the current month have to report that several visits of inspection have been made to the Old People’s Home. The bathroom, as authorised at last meeting, has been put up, and your committee would recommend that a highpressure hot water system be installed, and an estimate., is attached for tho "Information of the Board. The diningroom paper being very dilapidated, your committee deemed it advisable to have the room re-papered, and would also suggest that new linoleum bo provided for the kitchen as the present one is very worn. A woman,- .whose' hu-sband is out of work, with four children under eight years, has been helped to the extent of rent and rations amounting to 15s weekly, subject to the approval of _ your Board. Another woman and infant from Auckland arrived in a destitute condition, and provision -was made, for her admission to the Home, but she did not put in an appearance. . Another person, who is receiving rent allowance, appears to be in very straightened circumstances and in ill-health, as per medical certificate attached. She has four young children dependent upon her. Your committee 'would therefore suggest that tho patient be allowed, say 5s per week. / The family, -receiving 15s in rations .seem to be in trouble. The mother has gone Up the Coast and left the sick children. Your /committee would suggest that the father get some light employment in the country, / and that the Board pay. the 15s . for the keep of the children at the new creche erected by the Ladies’ Guild. Your committee would suggest/ that whenever cases for relief are considered, when they are for young children -who are not being cared for, that they, be sent to the. new Fbr the committee, J. Cv/ve .Collins.” / / The report, was ; adopted. , The custodian of the Old .Men’s Home ■reported as follows: —“ln the Home at last meeting 17, admitted during month, 0, left 2; number at present in Home, 70.” Ho acknowledged gifts of magazines from Mr. Green, newspapers from; Mrs. Rees, and turkeys from Mr. WililiQ ms * Accounts amounting to £llO 5s Dd -were missed for payment’. Messrs Clayton and Darton were appointed tho visiting committee; for tho ensuing month.
