HOCKEY.

SHIELD COMPETITION. The championship matches were continued on No. 1 ground at the Domain yesterday afternoon, in fine but bitterly cold weather. The ground was in very good condition, and some fast and interesting p’ay was seen. WEST END (1) v. KIA KAHA (0). Neither of these teams Avas at full strength, but a keenly contested game resulted in a win for West End by one goal, which Avas scored by McLachlan. Hamilton, Grant, Coleman, and McLean played avoll for the losers, Avhile Roderick, Pirie, Bright, and McLachlan showed good form for the winners. Mr. Armstrong (City) refereed the game. CITY (3) v. Y.M.C.A. (1). At the conclusion of the first game, the above teams met, and although City scored more goals, the play was very even, Y.M.C.A. having quite their share of it. Goals were scored for the winners by Grinlinton. Ccckeril-, and Corbett, and the Y.M.C.A. score was registered by Brown. For City, Armstrong, Doyle, Cockerill, and Day played well, and for Y.M. C.A., Pine, Baker, Ellison, and BroAvn strove hard to avoid defeat. Mr. 0. R. Olsen (West End) refereed.
