(Received July 2, 10.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 2. ‘ The Pacific Cable Company’s offer arose from Sir Joseph Ward’s proposal to reduce the terminal charges on press messages to a -|d, conditional on the Pacifio Company’s reduction of its share to 2d. The Pacific Company’s counter-offer of 2sd, subject to New Zealand reducing the terminal charge to £d, making a 9d rate, will operate after two days’ notice to the Berne 'Conference. It is expected to be initiated on August Ist. (Received July 3, 12.5 a.in.) MELBOURNE, July 2. The Postmaster-General has been officially informed of the Pacific Company’s intention to reduce the charges on press .messages to and from Britain, and, has been asked to co-otperate by reducing the terminal rate, which will probably be reduced to |d.
