NEW ZEALAND RETURNS.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 2. The returns of values of the chief exports of New Zealand produce from the port of Wellington for the month 'of June last, compared with June, 1908. are:—Butter: 1909 £6538, and 1908 £3680; cheese, £9816 and £2013; "beef, £13,169 and £6330; mutton, £5390 and £18,061; mutton (pieces), £10,667 and £2984; lamb, £40,657 and £37,057; hemp, £22,723 and £2-5,816; tow, £836 and £912; grain and pulse, £149 and £175; hides, £11,879 and £4746; skins, £6635 and £15,421; tallow, £17,598 and £14,382; timber, £llO and £2O; wool, £24,905 and £44,462; totals, £166,084 and £105,934. In the New Zealand “Gazette” of the 18th March, 1909, there appeared a return showing the estimated yield per acre of wheat, eats, and barley for the Dominion, viz., wheat 33 bushels, oats 42 bushels, and barley 34 bushels. The actual yields now to hand axe as follows: Wheat, 34.75 bushels per acre; oats, 46.64; barley, 39.67. The area of wheat for threshing was 252,391 acres, and the tot'd yield is computed at 8,772,790 bushels. The amount of wheat and flour retained on land on 31st October, 1908, (as .per returns), was 1,761,534 bushels; amount of wheat and flour imported from Ist November, 1908, to 28th February, 1909, 191,242; total, 10,725,566 bushels. The wheat and flour exported from Ist November, 190 S, to 28th February, 1909, was 6143 bushels. The. consumption for the same period for a population of 968,000, atthe rate of 6 bushels per head per annum, was 1,936,000 bushels; total, 1,942,143 bushels,' leaving available for all purposes as at 28th February, 1909, 8,783,423 bushels-
