BOWLING.

GISBORNE CLUB. The final for the champion singles trophy, the President’s Cup, of the Gisborne Bawling Club, was relayed yesterday afternoon, between J. J. Martin and M. Craig, and resulted in a victory for the former by five points, 'the'score being 21 to 16. Both men played a good game.. Craig’s score did not, by any means, represent the quality of his play, for he drew fairly well, and made many exceedingly good firm ’shots, which were not always as successful -as they deserved to be. He scored on the first head, making a single, but ‘Martin, by good drawing, got in three 'on the second. Martin’s drawing 'throughout the game was excellent, and proved altogether too much for his opponent, though the latter, by, well-directed firm shots, more than once scored when Martin was lying the shot. Craig drew very creditably on several occasions, especially on the 18th head, (when he got. in three by exceptionally 'good play, and made his total nine. 'Martin’s fine drawing ihad by this time lpiled up a total- of 20, and on the sucreeding head the latter gained another point, thus assuring -his win. Craig; who deserves great credit Tor the ipluck with which he maintained 'an uphill fight, got in seven points on the two remaining heads, and thus increased his total to 16. \ Martin takes the President’s Cup, and the gold medal given by the olnb, land Craig and F. W. Pettie have to 'play off for the second prize. The ’champion cup, which has been presented by Mr. W. Pettie, tbe present president of the. club, has to be won three times in succession, or four times at intervals, before it becomes the property of any individual player.
