SCARCITY OF LABOR.
A WELLINGTON INCIDENT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 3. Mr. Glennie, .Harbor Board labor foreman, yesterday had great difficulty in finding labor on the wharves. The Turakina and Morayshire caused a rush, and when 28 men were wanted at 8 o’clock they oould not be got. Several, when approached, refused work. Glennie had to take men off white-washing work in order to meet the emergency. Mr. McLaren, M.P., secretary of the Wharf Laborers’ Union, to a “Post” reporter, said this was no surprise to him. The best men had gone to Australia. He could understand men who were regularly employed by the shipping companies or on coal work refusing, as tlieiit absence would prejudice future engagements. It did not pay to take up a few hours’ “chance” work. - • - -
