The weather was dull and th© wicket good. The batsmen opened steadily. Noble carried the overnight score to 131 before he was dismissed through * catch by Lilley. He played faultless cricket. He batted 105 minutes, . and hit eleven fourexs. The sixth wicket fell for 402. Hopkins sent up a skyer, Pridmore taking th© catch. Seven foi 424. Carkeek lost his wicket through jumping out to hit Quaife. Eight for 430. Armstrong was taken at third slip without alteration of the. total. He hit five fourers. Charlesworth lost his wicket through a smart return by Whitty at mid-on, when the total was 23. Fishwick three runs later played Hopkins on off his foot. Kinnier and Quaife carried the score to 64. Then rain caused a stoppage of play for 3o minutes. Kinnier batted for 95 minutes. Pie showed good form. The third wicket fell for 96, and the fourth for 109. Quaife played a steady and resourceful game. He gave a sharp chance at slip off O’Connor. Stumps were drawn shortly before time, owing to the duskiness The. attendance yesterday was 3UUO, and to-day 1000.
