WELLINGTON, July S. Judgment was reserved in the Appeal Court in the case of Commissioner of Crown Lands v. Bennie. A PRESENTATION. Mr. T. AiTuur, late Traffic Superintendent for Wellington, has retired from the Railway Department after -- years in the service, of which he was the oldest member. He was presented with a silver salver and silver teapot from his colleagues and subordinates. The presentation was made by the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Railways. FINED FOR NOT DIPPING SHEEP. NELSON. July S. At Takaka, I. Dobson, charged with sending in a false return, stating that he had dipped sheep, was convicted and fined £lO and costs. It is stated to be the first ->rosecution of the kind in the Dominion. ARBITRATION CASES. CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. The Arbitration Court to-day fixed the dates for the hearing of disputes and compensation claims, extending to Julv 14th. The general laborers’ dispute re exemption of local public bodies from the award was fixed for hearing on Saturday. The Christchurch Saddlers’ dispute as to wages and preference- clauses is being heard. FINE WEATHER IN CHRISTCHURCH. The weather, is now all that could be desired after the recent cold snap and stretch of rain. MR. HOGG AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, July S. Mr. A. W. Hogg addressed a public meeting this evening. _ A fairly . largo audience gave him a good hearing, and carried a resolution ..expressing the opinion that in resigning his position as Minister in defence of his convictions Mr. Hogg acted in a manner worthy of the highest commendation. WANGANUI POULTRY SHOW 7 . The "Wanganui poultry show concluded to-day. It was a decided success, the entries numbering over 700, and the birds taken altogether were very fine. The weather spoiled the attendance.
