LONDON MARKETS. Messrs. Wv Weddel and Co., London, report as follows for the week ending May 2 BUTTER. Good general rains have fallen not only over the United Kingdom, but also in the north-western countries of the Continent, and in the course of a- fortnight this welcome change will result in an increased suoply of butter for the British markets. The high urices to which all classes of butter were rushed; last has suddenly checked the demand. The expected arrival of 6000 boxes of New Zealand butter in the middle of.next week, added to the actual arrival of over 15,000 New Zealand boxes yesterday in the Paparoa, together with 6000. in the Qmrah from Australia-due on Monday, has had a checking influence on prices of colonial. The increased supplies of Siberian exoectcd during Whit-week have tended to foster a, hand-to-mouth policy among both wholesale and retail buyers. There have been no shipments of butter this we'e’k in Australian mail steamers, the export has consisted only of 1000 boxes in an outside steamer whose longer voyage than the mail boats will bring tlie butter here near tlie beginning of August. Arrivals this week have been the Mongolia, with 4792 boxes from Australia, and the Paparoa above mentioned. Prices for choicest Australian are 100 s and 102 s per cwt., and Finest, 94s and 965; New Zealand brings from 2s to 4s per cwt, higher than the above prices, CHEESE. The market is quiet, but prices are firm. Canada’s new season’s make is 62s to 63s per cwt. Old white, 68s, old. colored, 725.
