M. Jean Jaures (Socialist) moved in the French Chamber of Deputies that it be an instruction to the Government to promote an international conference with the view of gradually arranging a simultaneous (?universal). Customs tariff.

M. Ouppi, Minister of Commerce, described the idea as generous, but, perhaps, chimerical. Nevertheless, 'the Government would not oppose the motion, which was carried by a large majority. Another motion to refer the matter to a committee was lost.
