GUARDING THE CZAR
AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY.
ALLEGED EX-CONVICT SELECTED FOR THE TASK.
United Presb Association —Copyright (Received July 11, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, July 10.
Russia has entrusted M. Hurtling, formerly chief of the Russian police in Paris, .with the task of ensuring the Czar’s safety on his visit to Cherbourg. M. Amieff declares that M. Hartling is really a Russian named Londeson, who was condemned in France in 1900', and sentenced to 5 years’, by default, for the manufacture of explosives. M. Clemenceau (the Premier) informed M, Jaures (Socialist deputy) that the authorities are convinced that the allegation is true. There is comment in Paris on M. Hartling’s selection, which is regarded as showing want of respect to France.
