POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION
The usual weekly meeting of the' Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held in the Masonic .Hotel last night. Present: Messrs H.-E. Maude (chairman), H. Bright, J. A. Eaton, J. S. Wauchop, W. Johnston, G. -K. Paslcy, and E. L. Maude (hen. sec.). An apology for non-attendance was received from Mr. L.- 0. Ingram.
The of the Y.M.C.A. Football Club wrote supplying the names of the two players who bad been omitted from the list supplied to the Union in connection with the Y. M.C.A.-Kaiti-City junior match.—Received. In connection with the protest of the Takitimu Club, the referee wrote giving his explanation that he had failed to seo the line umpire’s flag until after the try had been scored and allowed by him.—On the motion of Mr. Wauchop, the protest was disallowed. The secretary reported that the 'Wanganui Club had agreed to play the Poverty Bay representatives at Wanganui on August 17th. A letter was received from the City Club explaining their non-compliance with rule 39 in not supplying a list at the time of their recent game with the Alhambra Club.—After discussion, it was resolved to accept the explanation on receipt of the missing list. It was decided to forward the appeal of the City Club in their match, with the Gisborne Club to the Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote regarding the imposition and removal of certain disqualifications on players and clubs.— Received. The manager of the Mangatn Union wrote thanking the Union for their kind treatment of the team while in Gisborne last week. The secretary of the "Waiapu subUnion wrote notifying the Union of the suspension of the Tuparoa Club for failing to keep an appointment with Tokomaru. —It was decided to forward the notification to the New Zealand .Rugby Union. Advice was received from the Wairoa sub-Union asking for a date for a match in Gisborne, and agreeing to the Union’s terms regarding gates.—lt was decided to reply stating that a match could be arranged for any Saturday after the return of the representative team, preferably August 28th. A number of players were passed for the different clubs, and several accounts were passed for payment. It was Tosolved to write, again to the Referees’ Association drawing attention to rule 49 relating to players being garbed in their proper club colors ; also to ask that the rule he strictly enforced in future. Permission was granted to the Takitimu Club to play a match with a town team picked from the clubs not participating in the competitions next Saturday. The fixtures for Saturday were stated to he as follows: ted v. Kaiti-City; Juniors: Y.M.C.A. r. United; Thirds: High School ;r. ! Defence Cadets. The Thursday games are as follows: Gisborne v. Alhambra, at 1.45 p.m.; and City v. Star, at 3 p.m. It was resolved that the selectors pick a number of men to go into active training with a view to the representative tour. THE AUSTRALIAN GAME. The Executive Committee of the Poverty Bay Eoothall League (Australian rules) met last evening. Cor- ■ respondence included a letter from the Auckland Association in regard to the proposed visit of a representative team. It was felt that if arrangements could he made to have a match played between a local team and a visiting club much would be done to popularise the game in. Gisborne. The committee is endeavoring to make the required arrangements. The Auckland Association also forwarded a match football as a gift to the local League, the ball being the one used in a match played by the New Zealand representative team which toured Australia last year, in their match against Horsham (Victoria). The finances of the League •were reported to be in a fairly satisfactory condition, considering the initial expenses and cost of purchasing two sets of jerseys. The secretary (Mr. J. Wack) was instructed to ascertain whether the local League is entitled to a share in the £IOO which i has been devoted by the Council for Australasia to a propaganda fund. On Thursday next a match will be played between Australs and Imperials. A PLAYER DISQUALIFIED. [Per Press Association.! DUNEDIN, July 12. Mr. Eraser, secretary of the' South Canterbury Rugby Union, -reported to •a meeting of the Otago Rugby Union to-night that he identified Duval, the Ivaikorai player, as Duval who had been disqualified by the South Canterbury Union. Duval had denied it, but made no pretence of not -recognising Mr. Eraser. Duval stated also-that it was his cousin whom Mr. Eraser was in 1 search of. Questioned as to why ho * described in a, letter Duval, who is dark,-to be a- fair, tall man, Air. Eraser said that he had relied on fiis memory. The Otago Union resolved that the New Zealand Union be informed that Duval had been identified by Mr. Fraser, and that he be disqualified pending instructions from the New Zealand Union.
