Mi* J. F. Arnold >and Mr James Allen, being present at the meeting of the Catlins-Tahakopa Railway League last week (says the Dunedin “Star”) were asked by the chairman (Mr RChisholm) whether they could give a forecast of the parliamentary vote. Mr Arnold replied, with a smile, “£IOO,000.” Mr Allen said that was impossible. It was, however, something to know that as a result of the Public Revenues Act of the recent short session the old vote of £BO,OOO for the vear could be continued for six months, giving an expenditure, if the. Executive wished, of £40,000. That was the only authorisation now current. Any fresh authorisation would have to come from Parliament. The £40,000 might he spent up to the 14tli October. Parliament! would then be sitting. He thought that the line should get a fairly good vote, because he understood the policy was to finish this! railway. If, however, the authorisation was only to Table Hill, the League ought to agitate, to get it extended to Tahakopa. Mr Arnold added that the line was at present authorised only to Table Hill. He was not forecasting at present.
