HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of theTrustees of the Gisborne Hospital was hold in the Cook County Council Chambers last night. Pr’esent: Messrs J. W. Bright (chairman), E. H. Mann, G. E. Darton, A. Dewing, AV. D. SMacDonald, M.P., and the Hon. Capt. Tucker, M.L.C. Dr. B. Moore-Sampson wrote tendering his resignation as house surgeon at tlie hospital, stating as his reason that he had secured a good appointment in Australia. iHe statcjl that- he need not leave until the middle of September, and thanked the Trustees for the courtesy and kindness which had been extended to liinv during his residence. —Mr. Mann sa:jd that they had been fortunate in their house surgeon. He moved that the resignation, bo received with regret, and that it be placed on record the Trustees’ appreciation of the services of Dr. Sampson. Mr. Dewing seconded tlie motion, which was carried unanimously. It was also 'decided to send a letter of appreciation to Dr. Sampson, and to communicate with Dr. Valintine regarding the appointment of a successor to the present house surgeon. The superintendent of tho Napier Hospital wrote asking for information regarding the fees charged at the Gisborne Hospital for maintenance operations, consultations, etc. —The- secretary stated that the information had been supplied. Miss Higgins, technical cookery structress for the Education Board, for wadded a report of the invalid cookery examination for the nurses at the hospital. The report stated that the majority of the papers were good, some excellent answers being contained, in tho best papers. In the practical examination each candidate was required to make and serve four dishes. The examiners considered the method of setting about at. the cooking, and the dainty serving most satisfactory, each candidate apparently, without hesitation, having no doubt as to her capacity of turning out well the dishes set for her on her paper, and as they were all different, there was no possibility of copying a neighbor. The examiners remark on the whole of the work was most satisfactory. —The report was received. , , ‘ „ The Treasurer reported as follows:- — Receipts: Credit balance last meeting £324 5s 9d, patients’ fees £64 3s Bd, subscriptions £# 6s &U, rent £4 11s; total, £398 7s 2d. Expenditure: Accounts passed last meeting £372 7s Bd, accounts since paid £137 os 9d. Balance : Overdraft at bank £BS Is 2d, cheques unpresented £26 03 Id; totqj, £509 13s ad: Accounts presented last night £422 17s 6d. less those paid as above £137 5s 9d;'total, £285 11s 9d. Requisitions from District Board due ,;oa-s.—On the motion of the Chairman, the report was approved. Tho patients’ report was as follower Remaining from last month 2_/, admitted since 29, discharged 20, died 1; remaining at date 35. Mr. A. Dewing, on Lehalf of the Visiting Committee, reported that he had been up to the institution on several occasions and found everything to be perfectly satisfactory, and the renovation work well done, making the institution look much better. Tho Chairman said that the time had arrived to make some arrangements for the annual social to be held in September. Mr. Darton said that before the Trustees decided anything a publicmeeting should be called to see whether it was tho desire that a social should be held at all. He thought that the impression was gaining "round that the game was not worth the candle, and chat the people might rather contribute direct. - _ Other members pointed out that a large sum annually was raised, £3OO- - £4OO with subsidy. It was decided to eall a public meeting early in August to decide tbs ’ question. Mr. A. F. Matthews arid Hon. Captain Tucker were appointed the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
