In the House of Lords there was an animated debate on Lord Gorrell’s motion in favor of cheaper Divorce Courts in: the interests of the poorer classes. Lord Gorrell incidentally remarked that if the practice of drink could be f.l olished the Divorce Court might close its door. The Archbishop of Cantoroury was strongly opposed to the motion, wo,eh was withdrawn after Lord J.ausdowne had supported Lond Halifax’s and Lord Loreburn’s suggestion as to the deslability of the appointment of a Royal Commission to go into- the whole subject, including, as Lord Lorebnrn remarked, tbe publication of the mass of dirty stuff in some newspapers.
