BOWLING.
TTJRANGANUI CLUB. The committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club met last evening at the Record Reign Hotel. There were present Messrs W. Bruce (President), P. Hal-lain, J. Colley, M. G. Nasmith, senr, J. P. Williams, J. Jcuno, M!. G. Nasmith, junr, and W. 0. Sheet (hon. sec) The appointment of a caretaker was considered, the present caretaker having only received a temporary appointment. After a full discussion, it was resolved that applications for a caretaker be called, applicants to state the wages expected. In this connection a schedule of duties was drawn up, the sapie to be ascertained from Mr. P. Hallam 0!’- the. secretary. Tlie various sub-committees for the ensuing season were appointed as £ql- . lows:—Ground Committee: Messrs J. P. Williams, J. Jeune, and W. 0. Sheet. Match Committee: Messrs M. G. Nasmith, junr., J. Colley, and W. Bruce. Refreshment Committee: Messrs M. G. Nasmith, junr., P. Hallam, and D. Hepburn. , It v r as resolved that the whole of the committee be the committee to lay down the new green. In this connection, it was resolved that all work bo done by day labor, and that a start be made with the ground on Monday next. The question of the--removal of the pavilion to the new section, just secured by the club was considered, and after discussion it was resolved that an estimate be obtained of the cost of such removal, the committee to meet on the: ground on Saturday afternoon to finally decide on the project. Consideration was given to a proposal to apply to the Northern Bowling As-: sociation for permission to enforce the two-feet-on-tlie-mat principle/ It was pointed out, in discussion, that the club was permitted to have such a rule, and it was resolved to leave the question over till the rules were considered. The matters of beautifying the grounds and the connecting of the property with the telephone exchange were
brought up and left over till a later meeting. Mr. P. Hallam stated that he had received a donation of a pair of bowls from a Wellington firm for presentation to the club. The President, Mr. Bruce, announced his intention of also donating a trophy to the club. It was decided to hold monthly meetings of the committee, the next meeting to be held on Friday, August 13th, when applications for the caretakership of the club will be considered, and the rules of the club revised. NORTHERN BOWLING- ASSOCIATION. (Per Press .association WELLINGTON,, July 16. At a meeting of the council of the Northern Bowling Association to-night, applications for affiliation from nie Ponsonby, Auckland, Waitemata, Rocky No file, Grey Lynn, and Pihama clubs were granted. The secretary reported that 37 replies had been received to the suggestion that in future tournaments the competitors.be asked to pay an extra 10s each for entertainment expenses. The 37 / clubs were in favor of the approval of the scheme, which was formally recorded by resolution. A discussion on the “open-door" policy at tournaments was eventually tailed out of order by the chairman, no notice of motion having been given.
