THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM. Mr D. Fraser, manager of .the New Zealand professional football team that recently toured Australia under ern Union rules, was interviewed by a “Post” reporter on the subject of the trip. In Australia, he remarked,’ professional Rugby was on a par with the amateur game, as regards gates, ■players, and everything else. As a proof of this, he continued, the amateur people kept back the match five weeks, in order to make it clash with the Northern fixture. Despite this, however, while the amateurs had an attendance of 23,000, the professionals attracted on the same day a gathering of 19,000. Had it not.been for the series of accidents that befell various players, Mr Fraser said, he was confident that more matches would have been won by the New Zealand combination. Regarding the financial aspect of the undertaking, he said that the receipts quite exceeded his _ expectations,- the receivable by each individual player being double the guaranteed sum. Incidentally, he mentioned that a o-entleman had waited upon him soon after his return, with the object of organising a Wellington team to visit Nelson, and play a team there under Northern Union rules.
