STATEMENT BY THE ACTI NG - PREMIER, (Pick Press Association. 1 , WELLING!ON,'- July 20. The Acting-Premier (Hon. J. Carrol!) stated to-dav that since 1906 an aggregate of 1,530,129 acres of Crown land had been leased or sold in various provincial districts. The Crown Lands Guide now contained 1,144,443 acres. The area now advertised on posters totalled 108.233 acres. The area in the hands of the Land and Survey Office to be ready for opening and settlement before the end of August was 110.094 acres. It is understood, says the “Evening Post,” that some 30,000 acres reclaimed from Piako swamp will be available for settlement in the early autumn.
